I have seen droughts, earth quakes, Tsunami disaster and famines created by wars. Every disaster has its own tragic effect. The drought on the border between Somalia and Kenyan are no different.

The ugly face of hunger spares no one caught in its shadows, yet again I have witnessed first hand the plight of a once proud people living respectful lives and suddenly losing everything to mother nature and reduced to begging and relying on the mercy of other well wishers and just waiting for days in the scorching heat for the next truck load of food to arrive.

These people have had to abandon their children, families and parents in desperate search for food and hope one day they will be reunited with their families.

There are many trustworthy, hardworking volunteers who have dedicated their time and resources to help these people in their hour of need. Many local volunteers sacrifice their own food parcels so others can be helped.

The charities are doing their best to help the thousands in need but the task is enormous. Muslim Care, in conjunction with very active and hardworking self funding volunteers is raising money to help feed as many people as we can. I have worked with these volunteers and admire their dedication especially as they have managed to bring the cost of food parcels of a months rations for a small family to just £11 as compared to $70 being asked by some other charities, this is achieved mainly because Muslim Care is one of the very few charities which does not add on any expenses and all the proceeds are used in full to purchasing the food parcels and all the donations are 100% utilised for the maximum benefit.
